How is Ice Allocated?
The Richmond Arenas Community Association (RACA) has a formula that allocates ice based on the number of teams and the age level. The current allocation formula is as follows:
Hockey 1,2,3,4
1.5 hours/team/week
Atom Rep and C 2.5 hours/team/week
PeeWee C 2.5 hours/team/week
PeeWee Rep 2.75 hours/team/week
Bantam Rep and C 2.75 hours/team/week
Midget Rep and C 2.75 hours/team/week
Juvenile 2.75 hours/team/week
10% is added for hockey development (such as powerskating, goaltender clinics, referee clinics)
And then the total number of hours is calculated. Of that 20% of our times must be at "non-prime" times. Prime time ice is designated at 3 pm to 11 pm on weekdays and after 7 am on weekends.
Richmond Minor Hockey Association doesn't choose its times, rather they are assigned by the rink. It is our responsibility to allocate the times that we do have to the teams as fairly as possible.
Ice Cost (minor rate):
$72.50/hour plus GST.
Annual RMHA budget approximately $270,000
We pay for all contracted ice whether we use it or not.
Return of Ice:
If you are not going to be able to use your ice time, please trade it with another team, return it to your Division Manager or to the Ice Scheduler. Please do this as soon as possible to ensure optimal use of the ice. A minimum of 72 hours notice is required. If you have an exceptional situation that requires return of ice with less than 72 hours notice, please inform the Ice Scheduler.
Conflict Games:
For a game designated as a conflict by PCAHA, the home team is responsible for rescheduling, using practice ice or game slots on weeks with no scheduled games. If you require assistance, please contact your Division Manager or the Ice Scheduler ASAP.
No Shows:
Teams who do not show up for their game or practice time or who do not return the ice with sufficient notice will be given one warning. Any subsequent “no-show” will result in a bill for the ice time being sent to the team.
Rep Teams – Scheduled Extra Ice:
As part of the Rep fee, Rep teams are entitled to one additional practice slot every week at 6 am on weekdays or 7 am on weekends. Please contact me to schedule this ice. Please note that the full Rep fee is charged whether this ice is used by the team or not.For Atom and PeeWee Rep teams, it is expected that these teams will use early morning ice and teams that do not, will not be given first priority for prime time extra ice.For Bantam and Midget Rep teams, extra am slots are available, but not required. Please let the Ice Scheduler know what additional days your team would like to practice and I will try to arrange additional times when possible.
Rep and “C” Teams – Extra Ice:
Once the team has received its schedule, please let the Ice Scheduler know if you are interested in extra ice time. Please let the Ice Scheduler know the dates you are available. This will help in matching open ice to available teams.
Purchasing Extra Ice:
If you wish to purchase ice directly from the rink, please contact the rink directly, but inform the Ice Scheduler for insurance purposes.
Early Morning Ice:
Extra ice is always available at 6 am on weekdays and 7 am on weekends. Please let the Ice Scheduler know if you are interested in an extra time.
